New Zealand electrical safety regulations require that employers must implement regular inspections and testing of specified electrical equipment when such equipment is made available for use by staff. Other than the legal requirement, the main reason is safety. You can't afford not to do everything within your power to ensure that you and your employees are made as safe as possible.
By having all your 'plug-in' electrical equipment inspected, tested and tagged on a regular basis you are enabling any damaged or unsafe equipment to be found and repaired or removed before anyone is seriously injured or killed, as well as preventing any potential damage to your business premises. All electrical equipment connected to the electrical supply by a flexible cord and/or connecting device, which is already in service, has been serviced or repaired, or is returning to service from a second-hand sale, or is available for hire. The interval between testings depends on what type of environment the equipment is being used.
